1. What is hypotonic & isotonic?

A hypotonic solution has less salt (or solute) compared to the fluid inside cells. This causes water to move into the cells. An isotonic solution has the same amount of salt (or solute) as inside the cells, therefore there is no net water movement. Studies indicate that hypotonic drinks best enhance hydration during exercise. (Rowlands et al., 2021)
